Free Year 7 Icebreaker: ‘First Day, New Start!’ (English, Spanish & French)

A free, printable classroom icebreaker for the first day of Year 7, available in English, Spanish and French. It is a 'Find Someone Who…' mingle activity that gets a new class talking within the first twenty minutes, and includes a one-page teacher guide requiring about five minutes of preparation.

The first day of Year 7 is nerve-wracking — new faces, new building, nobody quite sure where to sit. This free, ready-to-print icebreaker gets your whole class up, talking and smiling in the first twenty minutes. Grab it in English, Spanish or French.

It’s a classic “Find Someone Who…” mingle: pupils move around the room, ask each other simple questions, and write down the name of a classmate for each one. Low-pressure, no reading aloud, no “right answer” — just the fastest route to a class that feels like it belongs together. It comes beautifully designed on the Ciui brand, with a reflection box built in so it’s a proper lesson, not just a game.

How to run it in five minutes’ prep

  1. Hand out a sheet and read the ten prompts together so everyone knows what they’re hunting for.
  2. Set the challenge: find a different person for each box and write their name next to it.
  3. Start an 8–10 minute mingle — pop some upbeat music on and let them go.
  4. Stop, and everyone fills in the reflection box on their own.
  5. Share-back: three or four pupils tell the class the most surprising thing they found out.
★ The golden rule: a classmate can sign your sheet only once. That one rule is the magic — it makes pupils talk to ten different people instead of just their friend.

Common questions

What is a 'Find Someone Who' icebreaker?
It is a mingle activity where each pupil holds a grid of statements and must find a classmate who matches each one, writing their name in the box. It forces brief conversations with many different people rather than only the nearest neighbour.
